Thelma Frazier Jones

Tribute

Thelma Frazier Jones, 95, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018. She was born in Franklin County, the oldest child of Bob and Violet Pearce Frazier.  At the age of twelve, Thelma was baptized in Moore's Pond as a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church.  She moved her membership to Rolesville Baptist Church following the family's move to the Rolesville area.  She graduated from Rolesville High School in 1939, then Hardbarger's Business school in 1941 with a degree in accounting.  Thelma was employed at WNH Smith Insurance Agency in Raleigh until she joined the Navy in September of 1943.  She received her basic training at Hunter College in New York, NY, store keeper school training in Milledgeville, Ga, and US Armed Guard training at Camp Shelton, Norfolk, Virginia; where she served as a disbursing clerk until her discharge in 1945.

While in the Navy, Thelma met Warren Kirby Jones who was also in the Navy.  They married in October of 1945 and lived in Norfolk, Virginia near his family until 1960, at which time they moved to the Rolesville area near her parents.  She retired in 1983 from Nationwide Insurance where she had worked as an Accounting Specialist for over 20 years. 

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Kirby and their first born, Robert Kirby Jones; her parents Bob and Violet Frazier, and brothers Earle and Syl Frazier.

A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, September 12, 2018 at the Rolesville Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her son Warren Paul Jones and wife Kathy, daughter Terry J. Pearce and husband Kirby, son Kenny Jones and wife Leigh Ann, grandsons: Matthew Jones and wife Lindsay, Michael Jones, and Tyler Jones; granddaughter Shelby Jones Brown and husband Christopher,  great grandsons: Leighton and Beckett Jones, and Kenlee and Kasen Brown; brothers: Roy Frazier, and Ray Frazier and wife Sandy, sisters: Lula Barnes McGhee, Pearle Keith  and husband Willard, and Myrtas Baker and husband Derward; and many nieces and nephews.

The Family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Hillside Nursing Center of Wake Forest and to Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. in the church family life center prior to the service.
