Thomas E. Douglass was born August 20, 1951, to William and Janice Douglass in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Perry Hall High School in 1969 and holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He became an Associate Professor of English at East Carolina University where he organized the Contemporary Writers Series and the Veterans Writers Project and taught American and British Literature and Writing. His most recent book, Voice of Glory, was published in June 2017. He enjoyed baseball, old movies, and music of all kinds. Tom is survived by his two daughters, Rachel Nifong and her husband James of Oxford, MS and Abigail Douglass of Wilmington, NC; Susen Douglass of Louisburg, NC; one grandson, Andrew Nifong; his brother, Matt Douglass and his wife Sandy of Baltimore, MD and beloved extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill, in 2001. Special thanks to his doctors and the staff at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center for their compassionate care and support.
