William Joseph Woodruff, “Jimmy” went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 3, 2018 at The Pittsboro Christian Village in Pittsboro, NC. Jimmy was the son of the late Blunt M. and Johnnie Pierce Woodruff.
Jimmy was a Corporal in the United States Army from Feb. 28, 1951 – Feb. 20, 1953. During this time he served as a Military Police and Sharpshooter in the Korean War.
While in boot camp he was introduced to his wife of 35 years, Shirley Thomasson Woodruff. She preceded him in death in 1988. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Jimmy married Shirley and settled in Raleigh to begin his career with ConAgra (formerly known as Armour & Company Meats), and to raise his four girls.
Jimmy is survived by his four daughters, Burnita Matthews (Larry), Sharon Mchee (Carl), Gynell Sippy (Brian), and Kim Lovelace (Jay), and his brother, Hayden Woodruff (Earline). “Papaw” is survived by 11 grandchildren, Shane, Justin, and Janna; Jennifer, Matthew, and Sandy; Carrie and Daniel; Aaron, Benjamin, and Caitlin. “Papaw” is also survived by 20 great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his sisters, Mildred Moss, Helen McNutt, and Weatha Davis.
Burnita, Sharon, Gynell, and Kim would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the loving and caring, Nurses, CNA’s, Cooks, and Office Administration of Pittsboro Christian Village who took wonderful care of Daddy. You were a special blessing to Daddy and to each of us.
A visitation will be held from 1:30-2:45pm, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Woodland Baptist Church, with services to follow at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pittsboro Christian Village Benevolent Fund; 1825 East Street, Pittsboro NC 27312.
