Mary Elaine Hopkins

Mary Elaine “Laney” Hopkins left us for a new, pain free home with her Heavenly Father. She died from Esophageal Cancer, Stage 4, which had only been diagnosed two weeks earlier.

Laney was born February 10, 1956 in Belton, SC, to the elate William H. McCoy and Mary McMahan McCoy Rosell.

Laney moved to Wake County (Raleigh) in 1981 to attend NC State School of Design. Her career as a Graphic Designer spanned two decades creating outstanding works for several local Design Groups. In her later life, she worked with a Property Management Co.; she recently retired.  Laney was very artistic and creative. Shew as known for cartoon characters, greeting cards designs-for all occasions. She enjoyed the beach, especially Sullivan’s Island, SC, bubbles, her little dog, Sweetie, her friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by a few cousins, step-father, two step-sisters and one step brother.

Her greatest joy was her son, George W.P. Hopkins, she delighted in all of his activities; soccer, swimming, gaming (and game design). She is also survived by her brother Bill McCoy (Carol) and nephew, Matthew (Kristy), her sister Anne Reeve (Mike), step-brother, Michael Rosell (Rob Fisher), several special cousins on both sides of the family. Also, her many friends in the “Muus” Scattered around the country. Her lifelong best friend, Susan Billingsly and Soccer Mom, friend Ester Hernandez, were with her in her last hours.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, Wake Forest.
