Perry Thomas “Tommy” Hill, 72, died in his home, Monday, December 10. Born on December 22, 1945, at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, Tommy was the youngest of Carl and Mabel Hill’s five children. He married Patsy G. Matthews in 1965, and they had a son, Chris. Tommy grew up in Youngsville and, after spending a number of years in Raleigh and Cary, returned there in his 40s.
Early in his career, Tommy realized that he preferred working for himself. He owned a house-painting business for several years, and before retiring a few years ago, he managed Paradise Bingo and owned Tommy’s Beach Bingo, both in Raleigh. Tommy prided himself on helping others and never turned his back on a friend in need. He had a soft spot for people in financial trouble and donated to several causes each year. He enjoyed pampering his employees at Christmas, and he was a go-to friend and favorite uncle. He loved animals—especially cats. He rescued several over his lifetime and provided food, shelter, and spay/neuter surgery for many feral cats in the area. He enjoyed watching westerns and collecting coins, and he never failed to find the humor in flatulence.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Patsy G. Hill; son, Chris Hill (Leah) of Garner; sisters, Shirley Murphy (Wesley) of Youngsville and Joyce Beauchaine (Jack) of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mabel Hill from the Youngsville area, and his brothers, Glenn Hill of Delaware, Ohio, and Maynard Hill of Nashville, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, Tommy's family would greatly appreciate donations in his memory to help Patsy and Chris with final expenses and beyond. Please contact Bright Funeral Home for the family's mailing address.
