Harley Shepherd Gilleland, Jr.

Harley Shepherd Gilleland, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Stewart Health Center, Springmoor Retirement Community.
Harley was born March 17, 1935 in Statesville, NC, to the late Harley S. Gilleland, Sr. and Lucille Love Fulp.
He graduated from Statesville High School in 1953 and then University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Physics in 1957. Following graduation, he entered the Graduate Training Program with Westinghouse Electric. He held the Manager of Marketing Services, Dry Type and Instrument Transformer Product Manager and then Marketing Manager for the company’s Power Circuit Breaker Division in Trafford, PA before returning to NC as the Manager of Westinghouse’s Meter and Low Voltage Instrument Transformer Division in Raleigh. After retirement, he continued working in the field as an independent consultant.
Cherishing his memory are his former wife and mother of his children, Carolyn J. Gilleland, Raleigh; daughter, Bonnie Walser (Michael), Raleigh, sons Andrew Gilleland (Donna), Frisco, TX and Scott Gilleland (Angie), Alpharetta, GA; six grandchildren; Allison Valentine (Bradley), Logan and Anna Walser, Jackson, Ava and Victoria Gilleland; sister, Betty Lu Long, Rockville, MD; nieces, nephews and many many friends.
The family will greet friends Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 7-8:30 PM at Bright Funeral Home, 405 South Main St. Wake Forest, NC with funeral services Monday, February 19, 2018 at 12PM, Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Rd. Raleigh, NC. Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 1 PM, Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC
Andrew, Scott and Jackson Gilleland, David and Tom Long and Mitchell Smith will serve as pallbearers.
The family extends their deepest appreciation for the loving care Mr. Gilleland recieved at the Springmoor Retirement Community and to his devoted health aide, Monicalynne Eason.
Harley enjoyed the outdoors and hunting until shortly before his passing. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation and mailed to NC 4-H Development Fund, Campus Box 7645 NC State University, Raleigh, NC 27695. Please note memorial to his name and 4-H Shooting Sports Program. Contributions may also be made to the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont, 1001 Cochran St, Statesville, NC 28677.
