Thomas "Tom" M. Durand

Tom died on August 31, 2015 at his place of business, as he was locking up his store, the victim of a senseless act of violence.

Tom was born January 5, 1951, the son of the late Alfred and Myra Epperly Durand. He was raised on the home farm in Herrickville, PA and graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School and Penn State.

After traveling and working in the hotel, restaurant, and auto sales industries for a number of years throughout the USA, Tom found his life's work by opening his own successful pawn shop, Mr. Pawn in Raleigh NC. There he met and married Mary McKibben and together they had 3 daughters, Stephanie Durand (Fiancé, Zack Thomas) of Raleigh, NC, Laura Durand of Wilmington, NC, and Elizabeth Durand of the home. In addition to the above, Tom is survived by his brother, John Durand (Donna) of Byron, NY; sister Marilyn Nicosia (Salvatore) of Athens, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon September 5, 2015 at Bright Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

In lieu of flowers a college fund has been set up as Elizabeth Durand Memorial College fund and donations can be made at any First Citizens Bank in the Triangle Area.
