Wayne Austin Deckard

Son, Brother, Husband, World War II Veteran, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather—all supportive roles that Wayne skillfully and lovingly played for nearly 98 yrs. His family loves him, will miss him, and will honor him for his outstanding performances in all of these roles.

Wayne moved to Raleigh in 2008 to live with his son (Larry) and daughter-in-law (Becky) and near his grandson (Rob). His daughter and son-in-law (Lynn & Jim Carey), three other grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two infant great-great grandsons all live in Sheridan, IN. Wayne was predeceased by his first wife, Estelle, his second wife, Eileen, three brothers, and two sisters. His sister, Leona, also resides in Indiana.

Wayne’s funeral and burial will be in Anderson, IN.

Sarah White provided outstanding support and loving care to Wayne and Eileen prior to Eileen’s death in 2012 and continued to help care and cook for Wayne until his death. She is a wonderful earthly angel.

In addition, Right at Home of Wake County provided an amazing team of caregivers for added support as Wayne’s health deteriorated. The family is very grateful for the loving care provided by Saurabh, Sheila, Annette, Ayodele (Sunday), and Cynthia. We can’t imagine how we could have made it through our journey without them! And finally, the family is so very grateful for the expertise and support provided by the staff of professionals at Transitions Life Care (formerly Hospice of Wake County) during Wayne’s final days.
